PAINTING PROCESS AND ARTISTS STATEMENT
Photo painting is
the art of combining photography with painting.
I created these paintings by first taking
photographs of the sites and downloading them to
my computer. I retouched and enhanced the
photos to add contrast and saturated color.
Then I imported them into a software program
that allows me to use photo files as templates for
digital painting. For this series of
paintings I primarily used cloning oil brushes and
blenders to translate the photos into works of
art. Using a drawing tablet and a touch
sensitive pen connected to my computer, I painted
these images of places that are as little as a few
minutes, to only a few hours by car from Suwanee,
GA.
Once painted, I personally print the pictures on high quality watercolor paper with pigment ink and spray the prints with a UV resistant finish. The combination of paper, pigment ink, and UV finish has been tested to be fade resistant for over 100 years. Finally, I personally sign and date each print. I have limited this edition to 250 prints, which include a Certificate of Authenticity. These images represent the natural beauty of Georgia and specifically the sense of peace and restfulness that can be found just by taking a walk in Georgia’s woodlands. Who can stand at the top of a waterfall overlooking a valley of fall splendor and not feel a sense of wonder. Who can stand at the foot of a waterfall and not feel a sense of tranquility wash over them. Who can stand beside a rushing river and not feel a sense calm. Who can stand on the top of a mountain looking out into the clouds and not feel the power of the land beneath them and a sense of space beyond time. It is my hope that these images are as restful for you to view as they were for me to experience and that you are able to experience these places in person as well as through my eyes. Give yourself the gift of time and place. Take the time and go to a place of peacefulness. Take a walk in the natural beauty of Georgia. I will be adding galleries of digital paintings in the future.
